Hello Families,  We have had a great last few weeks despite the cold weather! I hope you enjoyed the winter concert last week, everyone did a wonderful job.  The students worked really hard on their Christmas ornaments. Planning their design, creating an order form, calculating the cost and then creating their ornament. We hope you enjoy them as much as I did, each one was as unique as each child!  We have officially finished the read aloud Wishtree. Each child choose to summarize and retell the story either by creating a new cover and back summary or a comic strip. They turned out great! Also thank you so much to all the families for your generosity and kind words this Holiday season! I will really miss all the students while on the holiday break! I look forward to our return to school on January 9th, 2023.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! Wishing you and your family all the best in the new year!    Friendly Reminders:  Friday, December 23 - January 8 - Winter Break  Mond

Weekly Update - December 9th

It was a great week of exploring the characters in Wishtree and learning various multiplication strategies. Our class pet was also revealed... in the new year we are getting Vampire Crabs.  We used our planning from last week to write 2 sentences about each of the main Wishtree characters (Bongo, Red, Samar, Stephen) using only their character traits. Then, we went through the feedback cycles to improve the quality of language and descriptions. We used the final drafts of this work to make fortune tellers with a description of the characters inside. Students can now play against one another to see if they can guess the character based on the description. We spent the entire week working on developing and improving multiplication strategies through the use of arrays, skip counting and repeated addition. We then applied this understanding through practice questions and word problems and learning the more advanced versions of multiplication squares (math game). To asses students understan

Wishing you all well as we enter the final month of the year, wow! Thank you so much to everyone that took the time to connect and discuss student learning last week during our November conference time. It was wonderful to have families back in the school again and the ability to meet face to face.  Our learning have been incredible this week! Students have been extremely successful in our work looking at computation with money (grade 3) and decimal numbers to the hundredth (grade 4). Students are highly motivated as they know that as we move through this mathematical work our end goal is to be designing and constructing our own ornaments to take home for the holidays! This will be our gift from teacher to student this year. Next week, we will be looking at multiplication strategies and the following week (Dec. 12 to Dec. 16) we will be working on our ornament task design and problem solving.  We have also been looking closely at the elements of stories and applying summarizing skills

Hello Families,  We had a fun filled week of hands on learning between our pumpkin exploration and our sensory snack time. Thanks again for everything you continue to do to support our school learning.  Through research and documentation, we continue to learn about celebrations and food in India (grade 3 Social Studies). We have also started some research on pumpkins, their uses, and stages of the lifecycle (grade 4 Science). Students are demonstrating increased confidence with recording key information in jot note form, and accessing various online sources to synthesize information and demonstrate comprehension.   We continue to work towards showing, and communicating our understanding of mental math strategies through opening tasks and math conferences. This week we also introduced Which One Doesn't Belong tasks in connection to our School Development Plan for increasing students mathematical vocabulary to build awareness of their metacognition.  Ms. Browns class participated in
