Volunteer Tea

Rugby Alberta

Lake Bonavista School is participating in rugby from June 5 th until June 8 th in our school field. This sport involves foundational movement skills such as jumping, running, throwing, and catching. The goal of this experience is to learn the skills of rugby and will not involve any bodily contact.           Rugby Alberta has generously agreed to provide this residency free of charge.       Consent forms will be sent home with your child soon.  Please sign and return the forms so your child is able to participate in this fun LBS event! Forms are DUE WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 2023.     Thanks,          Active Living    

Gardening Club

Ms. Green and Ms. Greenhall are happy to be starting up gardening club at LBS! This club will take place on Thursdays for the whole lunch period.   If your child is interested in joining, they are committing to attend  every Thursday   until the end of the year. The first information session is on   Thursday May 25 th .   We look forward to making our LBS garden a beautiful place to be!    - Ms. Green and Ms. Greenhall

Weekly Update - May 8 - 12

Plant Growth  Don't get upset if your plant hasn't grown yet - W.D  There are many different parts of a plant - L.B  Some seeds grow faster than others - A.H    Ann & Sandy Cross Field Trip  We learned that you can find natural water sources, one can be morning dew - I.G  We learned that the First Nations made their Tipi facing East, the mothers would sleep at the front and the children would sleep at the back - L.B  Inside the tipi there was a woodpecker - B.Y  We learned that the tipi had a hole in the roof so that the smoke of the fire could get out - G.W  We learned that you had to wake up really early in the morning during the settler time - S.B  We got to see eight deers - R.R  The First Nations people are called nomadic because they followed their food and moved a lot - M.P & L.B  Free Verse Poems  We used success criteria to make our own poems - S.B  We learned that Free Verse poems don't really have any rules - R.M  Perimeter and Area Image    Friendly Remi

Weekly Update - May 1 - 4

                                                                                  The Marker Mystery  We continued our learning in connection to the markers being recycled at LBS.  This week we learned about line graphs and dot plots.  Ask your child to identify a difference between the two and which they find easier to read. We also  finally got to count out the markers that were initially collected by LBS. Groups were given large amounts of markers and were asked to create a plan on how they would most efficiently and accurately count their amounts.  Poetry   This week we reviewed what a free verse poem is and reread the poems from last week. Students have started to plan out their own free verse poem using success criteria which was created by the whole class.  Plants Each student was given a mini pot and had the choice to pick the seed of a bean, pea, marigold and zinnia.
