Wishtree Design  We continued our Wishtree design challenge this week. We voted on the most sturdy base structure to continue to build with. The class was then split up into three groups, one group building the branches, one group building the blue house from the story and one group building the green house from the story.       I can construct a structure and explain my choices.       I can work collaboratively with a group.  News Articles   We are working on creating news articles to capture the success of the assembly and Terry Fox Run last week. We learning that news articles are non-fiction texts that include the following elements:  I can use a graphic organizer to help with my writing.  Self Portraits  Students creating a self portrait using a picture of themselves without any pre-teaching/leaning. Over the next couple weeks we will be learning how to draw realistic parts of the face. We will apply these newly learning skills to draw a more accurate and realistic self portrait

Each morning students come in and work on an Opening Task. The Opening Task includes a math portion as well as a writing portion. The math portion stays the same for the week, this week we worked on number lines, independently selecting between three levels. The writing portion rotates between five tasks (alphabetical order, list making, spelling, descriptive words & neatest writing).  Quick Image is a math thinking routine in which students work on visual-spatial relationships, applying spatial strategies such as subtilizing, connecting mathematical concepts and communicating ideas and thinking. Students were shown an image for 10 seconds, they were then asked to recreate the image using a whiteboard or materials.  Math games are a fun way for students to engage in strategic mathematical thinking, problem solving and deepen understanding of numbers. Math games will be added to our Google Classroom as they are taught, feel free to play them at home.  Dare to Compare Our classroom i
