Weekly Update - Sept 6 - 9

Each morning students come in and work on an Opening Task. The Opening Task includes a math portion as well as a writing portion. The math portion stays the same for the week, this week we worked on number lines, independently selecting between three levels. The writing portion rotates between five tasks (alphabetical order, list making, spelling, descriptive words & neatest writing).

Quick Image is a math thinking routine in which students work on visual-spatial relationships, applying spatial strategies such as subtilizing, connecting mathematical concepts and communicating ideas and thinking. Students were shown an image for 10 seconds, they were then asked to recreate the image using a whiteboard or materials.

Math games are a fun way for students to engage in strategic mathematical thinking, problem solving and deepen understanding of numbers. Math games will be added to our Google Classroom as they are taught, feel free to play them at home.

Dare to Compare

Our classroom is nut sensitive. There is an individual who has allergies to nuts. As a reminder, if families could pack nut-free options that would be appreciated. For students who bring nuts, they may be asked to eat at an individual table followed by washing their hands thoroughly for safety of others. Thanks!
