Halloween is Monday, October 31 st . Students are invited to wear Halloween costumes if they would like. We remind all students that there is no gore, no masks and no weapons.  Students should come with their costumes on. Please ensure that costumes are comfortable to be worn throughout the day and will be safe and suitable for all daily activities such as gym, recess and learning time. Inflatable costumes are challenging for students to work in throughout the day.  In keeping with nutrition and health protocols, we ask for no additional treats or snacks to be sent in.    The parade is BACK!  We are so happy to welcome families back to the school for our Halloween parade. The gym will be set up for costume viewing. Our parade will start at 1:00 and students will wander through the gym to showcase their costumes. Hello Families,    We had an amazing walking field trip on Monday which kicked off our learning about poetry through descriptions and explorations with leaves. We did some journalling and some playing in the leaves and came back to the school to start working on our poems. We will share the good copies of this work with our school community through a hallway documentation board.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Here are some of the descriptions we came up with while on the field trip: The leaf swished through the sky like a sword - AP It swirled around like a lollipop - VJ It swirled down like the shape of a candy cane - SL It fell like a raindrop from the sky - L The leaf fell like a floating wave - LB The leaf swirled in the air like a cotton candy maker - IG Gently drifted like a feath

While in the garden, students had the opportunity to touch and smell sweet grass while completing a wonder map. The following day, we read stories about sweet grass and learned more about it.  "we have been smelling a lot of different plants and medicines and doing smudging every Tuesday" - H.C  Poetry We started our unit on poetry this week, focusing on how poems look as well as how they sound.   "poems describe feelings, they can be a letter to someone" - I.G. Math   In Math, we continued our work on rounding and introduced the concept of < > =.  "we learned equal, less than, greater than" - H.C  "we got little sheets with bigger and smaller numbers and we had to identify if they were bigger, equal or less" - M.M. Hello Families, This week we have been focusing specifically on place value and ordering of numbers, editing and revising written work, and continuing with our Wishtree novel study which connects to plant learning and building.  It is important to note that the new mathematics curriculum includes numbers up to 100,000 for grade 3 students, and place value with decimal numbers for grade 4 students. This is a jump in expectations in comparison to the former Program of Studies.  Math Game  This weeks math game was Place Value Yahtzee. Room 3 really enjoyed this game, I have uploaded it onto Google Classroom if you would like to play at home.  Article Writing  Students took their plans from the previous week and created their own news article about the Terry Fox Run or assembly. Once their rough draft was complete they used COPS and success criteria to edit their work (ask your child what COPS stands for).      Self - Portraits   We have continued our work on our self portraits, this week
